The training of volunters to provide care and support services to terminally ill patients and their families members on PEI. Services provided by volunteers are transportation to appointments, small household chores such as dusting, vacuuming, preparing a small meal, washing dishes, washing, folding ironing clothing. The volunteers also write letters and address cards. The volunteers will listen to patients and family members. The volunteer will read to patients and help the family or terminal patients to plan their funeral such as transportation to the funeral home to meet with the funeral director, plan the actual services in terms of scripture reading, hymns, contact ushers and pall bearers. The volunteer will also sit with the patients who cannot remoain alone at times when the family members cannot be there. The Bereavement Support Services offered to the family after the death of the patients consist of contacting the family member by phone or personal visit at various times during the 6 months following the patients death. Talking to the family member to ensure that the family member is/has adjusted to the death and if not, providing the names of professional grief support services from a list of names we have developed and listed in our Bereavement Resources Directory.
